Can my child wear a costume?
Yes, your child may wear a costume. However, he or she will not be judged on the costume. The costume has no impact on the judging process during the preliminary round. However, if your child is one of the 50 finalists, in lieu of the finals around Halloween, we have added a separate costume contest category. We ask that you show us through costume how your keiki is a healthy baby.
How many times can my child enter the Healthy Baby Contest?
Each child may be entered in only one of the Healthy Baby Contest preliminary rounds. First-place Healthy Baby winners from previous contests are not eligible to participate again.
What if my child is ill on the day of the contest?
If your child is ill on October 16, the day of the first preliminary round, he or she will still be eligible to participate on the October 22 second preliminary round. Be sure to contact the person listed on your child’s confirmation letter as soon as possible. Unfortunately, children who are ill October 22, will not have another opportunity to compete in this year’s Healthy Baby Contest.
When will the finalists be announced?
Parents/guardians of the 50 finalists will be contacted on Sunday, October 23 between 6pm and 9pm by the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees. The child’s parent/guardian listed on their registration form will be called directly at the phone numbers listed. Be sure to indicate the phone number(s) where you can be reached on that specific day and time. If there is no answer on any of the phone numbers, a message will be left on the final phone number listed, instructing the parent to call Meadow Gold Dairies Hawaii by Wednesday, October 27, 4pm Hawaii Standard Time (HST) to confirm in person, their child’s selection and participation in the final round.
If the parent/guardian does not contact Meadow Gold and speak with the Healthy Baby Contest representative to confirm their child’s participation in the final round by 4pm HST on Wednesday, October 27, that child will be deemed ineligible for participation in the final round. An alternate finalist will then be determined, beginning with the contestant with the 51st-highest score.
Meadow Gold Dairies Hawaii will contact the parent/guardian of the alternate finalist on Wednesday, October 26 (after 4pm). They must confirm their child’s participation in the final round by Thursday, October 27, 4pm HST.
The confirmed 50 Finalists will be posted to the website on Thursday, October 27 after 6pm.
The People’s Choice Category online photo contest winner will be announced Sunday, October 30 at the finals, held at Ala Moana Centerstage. Only the photos of the 50 finalists will be posted for online voting. The voting will be available at www.healthybabycontest.com beginning Thursday, October 27 from 6pm HST through Saturday, October 29 until 10pm HST.
When will the winner be announced?
All winners of the 58th Annual Meadow Gold Healthy Baby Contest will be announced on Sunday, October 30 at the final round at Ala Moana Centerstage.
How will my child by judged?
Each child is judged according to the following categories: Physical Appearance, Healthiness, and Personality. Each category is rated on a 25-point scale, from excellent to poor.
How are the scores determined?
A team of independent accountants will calculate each judging sheet for each child to determine their average score.
What happens if there are ties between scores?
If there are tied scores, the child with the highest number of points in the Healthiness category will be declared the winner.
Who selects the judges?
Meadow Gold Dairies Hawaii and the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees both invite judges to participate in the Healthy Baby Contest. Judges are volunteers selected based upon their expertise in the areas of children, health, nutrition, education or their community commitment and involvement.
