54th Annual Healthy Baby Contest Winners!Dream Takemoto was crowned the 54th Meadow Gold Healthy Baby of O‘ahu, officially making her the healthiest and happiest baby in town. Dream is the daughter of Cher and Blayne Takemoto of Waipahu. At 1 ½ years of age, Dream has personality and pizzazz that won over the judges, and with her smile and cheer, she brought smiles to all. ![]()
More than 400 toddlers aged 1½ to 2½ years competed for the title of O‘ahu’s healthiest baby in two preliminary rounds at Pearlridge Center and Ala Moana Center. From those two rounds, the 50 contestants with the highest scores were selected to compete in the final round, hosted by Michael W. Perry, on Saturday, September 22, at Ala Moana Centerstage. The toddlers were judged on physical appearance, healthiness and personality, with each category scored on a 25-point scale. Dream garnered the most points and was awarded a $2,500 U.S. Savings Bond by Meadow Gold Dairies of Hawaii as well as numerous toys and prizes contributed by the event’s many sponsors. Second place was awarded to 2-year-old Kadin Hideki Watanabe of Honolulu, son of Kandyce and Scott Watanabe. He received a $1,500 U.S. Savings Bond from Meadow Gold Dairies of Hawaii. Third place was awarded to Kylie Villalobos of Mililani, daughter of Kristin and Aladin Villalobos. 2-year-old Kylie was awarded a $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond by Meadow Gold. Fourth place was awarded to Ivy Critchlow of Mililani, the daughter of Tania and Richard Critchlow. The 2 ½ -year-old received a $750 U.S. Savings Bond from Meadow Gold. Fifth place was awarded to 1 ½ -year-old Zoe Mei Hien Yee of Honolulu, daughter of Amie Nguyen and Roland Kwock Sun Yee. Zoe received a $500 U.S. Savings Bond from Meadow Gold. All winners also received numerous toys and prizes contributed by the contest’s many sponsors. The annual Meadow Gold Healthy Baby Contests, in partnership with the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees, helps raise community awareness of the importance of teaching children good health and nutrition habits at an early age. Establishing proper habits starting in early childhood can lead to a healthy lifestyle. The neighbor island Healthy Baby Contests are held in conjunction with the county fairs; dates for registration vary.
